Five years removed from The Never Story, millennial ATLien JID has celebrated half a decade in the limelight upon the release of The Forever Story. This series’ inaugural record remains an exciting display of acrobatic cadences by the rapper, seamlessly wound through a well-rounded beat selection. The Forever Story manages some growth from its predecessor, and yet, contains a weaker tracklist overall. As a writer of rhymes, JID is nothing short of a marvel. Nimble wordplay and flamboyant flows not only serve to sonically entertain the listener here, as JID’s rapping can also be described as thoughtful, expressive, and vivid. As for beat and song selections, The Forever Story is decidedly decent, despite an increase in payroll allocated to its features, samples, and production this time around. Certainly, Forever is a worthy follow-up to Never, lacking only its supremely captivating momentum of energy. – DeVán (7.5/10)

Community Reviews:

The Forever Story holds so much personal weight for JID, primarily on “Bruddanem,” “Sistanem,” and “Kody Blu 31.” Great singing from JID appears on a plethora of tracks, with plenty of flawless bangers to contrast as well—with “Surround Sound” and “Dance Now” being some of the best tracks of 2022. JID has it all, with an ability to create great energy with new school acts like Lil Durk and 21 Savage, as well as the artists that inspired him, such as Lil Wayne and Yasiin Bey. – @musi.cshiz (9.5/10)
