New Music This Week: March 14

highlighting new music by cootie catcher, feeble little horse, Florry, Aminé, & MORE

Lots of hands. Two people outdoors, one with curly red hair, the other with dark hair. Both wear sweaters. Sunny field and trees in the background. Relaxed mood.
Florry by Connor Turque

Welcome to our new releases guide featuring the most notable music released the week of March 14.

BLIGATORY Picks

cootie catcher - Shy at first

Slacker Rock, Indietronica, Noise Pop
via Cooked Raw

feeble little horse - "This Is Real"

Slacker Rock, Noise Pop, Indietronica
via Saddle Creek Records

write-up by Peter Doherty

Feeble Little Horse re-emerge from their somewhat secretive state with "This is Real." The name packs a punch, as it certainly took a second glance to know that it was indeed real, the track being the first piece of material we have heard from Feeble Little Horse since their 2023 breakthrough release, Girl With Fish. Since then, the band has been sparsely touring the US.

Feeble Little Horse head into the UK/EU for the first time in June for a seven-date tour which sees the Pittsburgh natives hit cities such as Manchester and London—both a part of Outbreak Festival—and Barcelona. Paris, Amsterdam and Dublin will also receive the Feeble Little Horse treatment.

Florist - "Moon, Sea, Devil"

Indie Folk
via Double Double Whammy

write-up by Peter Doherty

"Moon, Sea, Devil" is the fourth single released in the run-up to New York indie foursome Florist's upcoming studio album Jellywish. The track turns inwards as it flows outwards, as it all should; easier said than done, as it all is. It's a gentle, compassionate piece, something to confide in, as Florist rest their hand on your shoulder.

Jellywish, the band’s fifth studio album, is out April 4 on Double Double Whammy.

Florry - "Hey Baby"

Alt-Country, Country Rock
via Dear Life Records

write-up by Atticus Deeny

The Philadelphia-formed alt-country act Florry have announced their new Sounds Like… with the new feel-good single “Hey Baby.” The band’s third album will be out May 23 via Dear Life Records.

The production of the track is closer to classic rock than country, with heavy guitar focus, a somewhat psychedelic solo, and a satisfying chord progression. Francie Medosch’s effortless delivery stands out as well, as her vocals seem improvised at times, just following where the rest of the band goes. The majority of their upcoming album was recorded at the notable Drop of Sun Studios in Asheville, North Carolina, and mixed by Philly’s own Heather Jones.

The band will be hitting the East side of the US this June, with four shows featuring Lame-O Records signee Lily Seabird.

Atticus' Picks

Aminé - "Familiar"

Hip House, Pop Rap
via CLBN / 10k Projects

Following a few double-single drops in late 2024, rapper/singer Aminé has declared that an album is on the way. “Familiar” begins the rollout proper with a shot of hip-house energy for the incoming warm weather, adding another layer to Aminé’s diverse solo output.

Aminé has made it clear that he can command an electronic instrumental on collaborations like Disclosure’s “My High” and his 2023 album with KAYTRANADA, so it is no surprise that “Familiar” feels easy for the artist. It will be interesting to see what direction he goes in for the album, which has not yet been announced but alluded to on various social media posts. Given the range of hip-hop, pop rap, and R&B he displayed between 2020’s Limbo and the 2021 follow-up TWOPOINTFIVE, the project will likely embrace Aminé’s versatility.

Pop Rock, Indie Pop
via Australian Broadcasting Corporation

Indietronica, IDM
via Fantasy Records

HAIM - "Relationships"

Cont. R&B, Alt-Pop
via Columbia Records

Salami Joe Rose Louis - "Dribs and drags" (ft. Luke Titus & Flanafi)

Neo-Psychedelia, Ambient Pop
via Brainfeeder

Dominick's Picks

Terraplana - Natural

Shoegaze, Dream Pop
via Balaclava Records

Cross Record - "Led Through Life"

Art Pop, Singer-Songwriter
via Ba Da Bing!

The final single from singer-songwriter, musician, and Loma frontwoman Emily Cross before the release of her new album. Crush Me is the first Cross Record project in six years, and it's probably already out (March 21) by the time you read this.

Private Lives - "I Get Around"

Garage Rock, Power Pop
via Feel It Records

Montreal's Private Lives drop one more before the release of their sophomore album. Salt of the Earth is out March 21 on Feel It Records.

Neo-Psychedelia, IDM
Self-Released

Following the release of their phenomenal sophomore album in September, Los Angeles noise pop aficionados Dummy announce a companion album featuring 12 remixes. With help from GMO, Wishy, The Mall, and more, Free Energy is reimagined on Bubbelibrium DLC. Out June 11.

Motorbike - "Afraid of Guns"

Punk Rock, Garage Punk
via Feel It Records

Alongside the aforementioned Private Lives, Motorbike also have an album dropping on March 21 via Feel It Records, the ever-consistent Cincinnati-based record label and central hub for much great modern garage punk and post-punk. A homegrown talent of sorts, the upcoming Kick It Over is the Cincinnati band's second release, following their 2023 S/T that also came via Feel It.

Disaster Artist - Today

Slacker Rock, Bedroom Pop
via Magic Wizard Records

Famous Logs in History - Mind the Bollards

Art Punk
via Fuzzy Warbles

Olivia's World - Greedy & gorgeous

Indie Rock, Twee Pop
via Little Lunch Records / Lost Sound Tapes

Potter's Field - Tomorrow For Yesterday (EP)

Screamo, Metalcore
Self-Released

RWETES - BRZYDAL

The Hell - The Hell (EP)

via Lisbon Lux Records

Post-Punk, Noise Rock
Self-Released

Stannington - "Hudson"

Post-Punk, Jangle Pop
via Zeche Records

Peter's Picks

Post-Punk Revival, Indie Rock
via Lower Third

The heavily pop-fueled antics of Liverpool's Courting return with their third album in three years, the short and sweetly titled Lust for Life, Or: 'How To Thread The Needle And Come Out The Other Side To Tell the Story.' The boys have been busy pushing their pop palettes, touring North America, and of course, recording their latest project.

Album opener "Rollback Intro" sets the frame, welcoming us into the world of Lust for Life with gorgeous strings and an effervescent, spring-cleaning quality—only for "Stealth Rollback" to completely obliterate said frame. It's fair to say that the rug is pulled from under the listener’s feet. Think of it as strolling through a lavish Victorian dinner as the candles flicker from subwoofer frequencies and walls crumble, as a Boiler Room set suddenly kicks off and pulls you out of your slumber. A vast array of styles—mostly of a pop incline—are sought out across the album. It's Courting doing as Courting does  and never settling. At 25 minutes in length, you just can't go wrong.

billy woods & Kenny Segal - "Misery"

Jazz Rap, Abstract Hip-Hop
via Backwoodz Studioz

We kind of know what to expect from Billy Woods at this stage. Yet, that doesn't make it any less fascinating to say that he delivers every time. On "Misery," Woods once again partners up with Kenny Segal, who collaboratively produced Woods' Hiding Places (2019) and Maps (2023). GOLLIWOG, Woods's follow-up to Maps, is set to feature production credits from the Alchemist, El-P, Shabaka Hutchings, DJ Haram, and Conductor Williams, among others. Shit is getting real.

Woods' upcoming album GOLLIWOG releases May 9 via Backwoodz Studioz.

Woods will head out into North America across May and June, then into the UK/EU in October, before returning to North America in November. The dates and places are a bit scattered. See all the stops in the image below.

Insider Trading - "Cowboy"

Post-Rock, Post-Punk, Noise Rock
Self-Released

Edinburgh-based band Insider Trading comes through with the six-minute single "Cowboy," a slow-burning, slow-moving track that feels like it belongs inside of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. The calm seas the track rides in on don't last, as nothing ever does. The waves build and build and build. The inevitable occurs. However, the cowboy gets on his horse and gets the hell out of there. Keep it cool. To better pastures we go. Leave the rough to the ruffians. The past is never far behind. It taps you on your shoulder from time-to-time. Knock knock. Who's there?

“My stories drag on, and the ending makes no sense. As I'm lying in the premise and forgetting half the words.”

Panchiko - "Mac's Omelette"

Indie Rock, Bedroom Pop, Neo-Psychedelia
via Nettwerk Music Group

Nottingham's Panchiko move one step closer to their upcoming studio album with the fourth single, "Mac's Omelette." The track emanates a smooth, subtle, and ultimately reflective essence. It’s a rather nuanced sonic space decorated with falling pianos and floaty soundscapes.

The band's upcoming sophomore album, Gingko, releases April 4 via Nettwerk.

Panchiko will play an eight-date Spring tour in the UK/EU which starts in Dublin on March 25 and then tour North America across May and June beginning in Boston on May 28. Find all of the dates here.
