Yeat hasn’t slowed down with the release of 2 Alivë, in fact he’s only grown even more successful both commercially and in terms of popularity. But, it’s very clear that its predecessor, Up 2 Më, was able to accomplish more in about the same runtime. There are several very strong pockets on this record that deliver the same euphoric, and almost hazy, sort of alternative trap music. It’s no less ripe with Yeat’s distinct vocal presence, or his vernacular that’s produced infinite quotable lines. His music is as addictive as it is entertaining. But, this definitely could’ve been trimmed down to a project with 12 tracks or less. Although big names like Young Thug and Gunna appear on the features list, their presence is sort of bittersweet; Gunna does his thing, but Thugger just doesn’t seem to fit the way he should’ve. 2 Alivë very clearly has a different sound and approach than Up 2 Më, but Yeat still could’ve delivered a similar focus and dynamic energy to this project as ones he’s done before. An entertaining record, but not one without some bumps in the road. – Ben (Synth) (8/10)

Yeat is a simultaneously energetic and enigmatic West Coast trap artist that’s amassed profuse popularity, right under the nose of the mainstream. 2 Alivë, much like its predecessors, fulfills a particular appetite for a somewhat otherworldly turnup atmosphere, drenched in sedatives and stimulants. While Yeat is certainly making a name for himself with this sound, it lacks versatility and dynamism in the span of an hour-long project. The next step for the young star will almost certainly have to include complementary traits and songwriting tactics that provide reprieve from the relentless energy of his music to this point, and show a side to his music that fans have yet to see. – DeVán (6.6/10)
